Hawaii's North Shore

Aloha!

Gary and I joined Jan and Andy to celebrate Janet's birthday (no, I'm not telling which--but it is evenly divisible by ten!)

Andy and Jan rented a great house on Sunset Beach, allowing us to enjoy these wonderful views morning, noon and night!

The house had three bedrooms, giving us lots of space and privacy. Some of these pictures were taken from the deck, where we were able to watch the surfers--who start at daylight and keep at it until the sun sets!

We were there the first weekend of the Triple Crown Surfing contest, although the waves were not quite up to the expectations, so the contest was postponed.

We ate out several times, opting for appetizers at Joe's, breakfast at Rosina's Cantina (very slow service!), shaved ice at Matsumoto's (twice!), Thai food in Kaneohe, and finally, Jan's birthday dinner at Jamieson's.

We stopped at the park in the town on Haleiwa on our way to breakfast and found they were filming a scene for the TV-show, Baywatch. Interesting--but I still don't think I've been won over as a fan of the show!

We also stopped and visited Orchid Paradise where we selected orchids (all Dendrobiums) to be sent to us at home. The man who assisted us (John?) was patient and very helpful, making our stop there a highlight of the trip. He also assured that we too can raise orchids. We will soon find out.

After dinner we met Jan's friend, Kathy at the Bay View Lounge at the Hilton at Turtle Bay and Kathy brought Jan one of the most interesting and beautiful leis I have ever seen, and danced the hula for her. This was so very special and can not be compared to a "commercial" hula show.

Happy Birthday, Janet!
